The Phaeton
1929 MODEL A FORD PHAETON
For us, this is the car that started it all. This Ford found its way to Brazil and by the mid-1970s was chest deep in weeds and home to a large and active bee hive. It was modified with a 1940 ford rear end and hydraulic brakes when purchased in 1978. The car has original dual side mounted spare tires and a rear trunk mount. It is one of over 49,000 Phaetons made by Ford in 1929 and originally sold for U$ 395. Ford gave the Phaeton name to its four door Model A convertibles; it replaced the Model T Touring.

By 1985 the body was repaired and the car was painted rock moss green. It then moved from Brazil to California were it would spend a year in a barn in Diamond Springs, 4 years under a tarp in the Mojave Desert,10 years under a carport in Porterville, 6 years under a tarp in Milo and 3 years in a tent in Sacramento. The paint job did not survive storage, but did protect the body from further deterioration. I reinstalled an original rear end and mechanical brakes in high school, but college stopped the progress at that point. The plan is for a 'frame-up' restoration sometime after 2020.
